Elly was born and grew up in Waghäusel, a town near Karlsruhe. In school, she developed a fascination for natural sciences that only grew with time. Staying close to home, she started studying biology at KIT and wrote her bachelor’s thesis on molecular aspects of mycorrhizal symbiosis. She continued with her master’s at KIT. After exploring Norway in a semester abroad, Elly has returned to start her master’s thesis in the Hilbert lab, working together with Yuzhi Bao. Beyond the lab, she also enjoys reading, hiking and very occasionally playing the piano.
